Consular Processing

Consular Processing involves the process of bringing one’s family member(s) to the United States. Paperwork is submitted to the applicant’s respective consulate or embassy in their home country. Processing times can vary from one country to another. An exception to these time frames is when one is seeking to bring a family member into the United States as a fiancé wherein the processing time is usually 90-120 days.

The difficulty with consular processing can be the lack of communication between parties in the United States and the post abroad. In light of this, it is critical to have all necessary paperwork available at the time of the interview.
